Yes and no. The modem is acutally a router/bridge. It must be registered for your
particular segment,yes. The IP address are assigned to the PC's running through that
cable modem. i.e. If you have purchased multiple IP address for multiple PC's from
@home then you can run a hub after the modem and connect each PC which have different
IP addresses. If the cable modem had the ip addresses you would have to masq the IP's
behind the modem. The cable modem does have an identity but only for the @home
administrator and not for you to use. Hope this helps.
