This can be easily be proven to see if it affects you. Change your network card or
hook up another computer to the cable modem with the connect name. You will see that
the IP address has changed, now change back to the original setup and the ip address
comes back for the original. This is because of the MAC address on the network card
(be it a computer or a linksys box).
