I think AHainult misunderstood my position. I
wholeheartedly support separation of church and state,
and believe in it completely.

My problem is pledging allegiance to a piece of cloth,
that has often been a symbol of war and violence, and
often used for Jingoistic purposes. But if you read my
original comment, I suggested adding the Preamble to
the Constitution, to the pledge, not instead of, as
the author suggested.

I would much rather pledge allegiance to the
Constitution, which is the whole basis for our
country and our freedom(s). I believe in the
Constitution much more than I believe in a flag. I
have spent hours studying the Constitution, decisions
relating to it and how it protects us. I have never
done that with a flag.

However I do like Eva's idea and would support it. But
why not do both? The pledge with "God" removed and the
Preamble to the Constitution?
