In fact, if Tim Erickson gets the St. Paul issues list to organize a boycott of Wal-Mart, I'll sink $100 of my hard-earned dough into the pledge drive.

Good one, Tom!

:-)

This gives me an opportunity to make a broader point (using Tom's comment, just for fun) that might address some questions that other participants have.

(Again, I'm using Tom's comment as an excuse to make an important point to the ENTIRE list - which MIGHT come as a surprise to some participants).

E-Democracy is a non-partisan organization that doesn't take positions on issues. Now, as a citizen I've taken positions from time to time, but that should not be confused with E-Democracy or my role as List Manager.

As an organization, E-Democracy built and maintains this public space for people like Tom (Goldstein or Swift) to use to express their ideas, share information, and sometimes even organize the community. If Tom or anyone else chose to use our forum as an organizing tool for a "boycott" Walmart / buy local campaign - that would be ok, as long as they adhere to our list rules and keep the focus on St. Paul Issues.

The same goes for anyone else. If the Chamber of Commerce or any individual wants to use the forum to organize an effort to build a stadium in downtown St. Paul, they may do so (again, as long as they adhere to list rules).

Earlier this week, someone suggested a citizens effort to save the Como Planetarium. If anyone wants to use this forum towards that purpose, that's why we are here. But, its not the role of E-Democracy to start or lead that effort. That's where you as citizens come it!

The St. Paul Issues Forum is a tool for citizens to use, but we do not and will not organize campaigns or take positions on issues.

If you wish to save your hard earned money to support advocacy groups, that is certainly your legitimate choice - and I won't hold it against anyone. However, if your interested in helping us build tools that empower, inform, and engage citizens in the public life of our community - then I think you should send a pledge/check to St. Paul E-Democracy.

Check Payable to: "E-Democracy"

     St. Paul E-Democracy
     1442 Thomas Ave.
     St. Paul, Minnesota 55104

We still very much need to raise an additional $800 this week. That's only another 10-22 pledges (depending upon how generous they are).

Best wishes,
