Tim Says that:
"Everyone on this list could come up with program that
they think should be cut in favor of the Planetarium
and justify their case."
The Planetarium closing is nothing more than a single
example of a very well entrenched set of ideologically
driven priorities that have little to nothing to do
with academic education Tim. Youre exactly right in
your assertion, there are more than enough such
programs and policy directives in our district for
everyone to claim one for their own!
Remember when the district voted to cut the
transportation budget, and then voted to put teeth
(Al Oertwigs words) a policy in place meant to help
guarantee that the bus companies would become
unionized despite two failed attempts? In what way
does that help the students?
Or how about what happened in the wake of Dr. Harveys
attempts to apply some genuine accountability into the
schools? Read the paper lately? SPPSs already dismal
record of neglect to our minority students has taken
another downturn under the direction of the boards
three AFT mascots with nary a word about what is
actually happening in the schools.
And Tims use of the districts all time favorite
boiler plate its too complicated for you to
understand obfuscation fails to address the facts, as
always. Sure, there is always some Latino Outreach
type smoke and mirrors to accompany any questionable
use of the districts resources but it doesnt take
much to clear the air.
While GLSEN and its allies have threatened their way
into many schools, other schools have recently begun
to fight and win against their coercions. In any case,
nowhere is it written that any district must set up a
separate department complete with its own office
building and permanent staff to implement a
homosexual-centered curriculum to the exclusion of all
other victims of intolerance or school-yard bullying.
I'm still waiting for Anne to inform us of the correct
cost..I've got a bet that it is actually closer to
$150k a year now.
In no state or federal document will you find a
mandate to dispense birth control medical services
within the schools to the tune of better than $275k
per year.
I also failed to find the directive mandating a $180K
legislative lobbyist anywhere in No Child Left
Behind.
I could go on for quite some time in pointing out
instances where the district board has put its
politics ahead of the students' welfare, but Im well
aware that the bulk of this forums participants are
very pleased with the direction that the district is
heading.
So be it!
Just do the rest of us the courtesy of averting your
eyes a bit while you claim to worry so deeply for the
children.
