And Tim's use of the district's all time favorite
boiler plate 'it's too complicated for you to
understand' obfuscation fails to address the facts, as
always.

I didn't say that its too complicated to understand. I facilitate this forum, because I think that most citizens can understand these issues, if they want to and are willing to commit the time.

I did say, that it was MORE complicated than saying

"if we cut 'a' then we could do 'b'."

In fact, I happen to think that most of the public understands that if the school district get money designated for a specific program - then that money cannot necessarily be used to fund a Planetarium or any other 'pet' project that one might have.

Its true, that many of the programs or expenses at the district that some folks oppose, may not be mandated. But, cutting them doesn't necessarily mean that the district saves money for other things - if their funds were originally designated for a specific use. And, SOME OF THEM, are mandated.

Not to mention, that while Tom and a good many other citizens might oppose some of those specific programs - another group of citizens support them.

Tom would like us to believe that the because the district supports "non-academic" programs that he finds morally objectionable - that therefor the district isn't putting a priority on academics.

I think that most of the public is perfectly able to understand why this argument is overly simplistic. We have a clash of values and ideas - not a clash of interest in serving students.

Tom and I disagree on what is "right" and "wrong." But, I think its not fair to suggest that either of us "cares" or "worries" more or less about children, we just have fundamental disagreements about how one takes care of and educates our children in this society.

Best wishes,
