Tom, I think the issue with "private Clubs" is that once private, they fall under far
fewer regulations etc. For instance, a bottle club would not be subject to bar
closing limits. etc.
To carry the argument further, allowing smoking clubs that served food and drink would
essentially move all bars and restaurants to a membership organization, where they
collect a fee upon entering and then allow you to do what was forbidden in other
similar institutions.

Yes I see what your saying, but it's not answering my
question.
For instance, what's wrong with "bottle clubs"? We
have laws covering the consequences of over-imbibing,
(drunken driving, public drunkedness & etc.) that
already apply.
Comparing bottle or smoking "clubs" to whore houses
makes for a perfect illustration of what I and many
others are driving at. Whoring is illegal anytime
anywhere; smokin' and drinkin' are not.
It seems to me that aside from the "pound of flesh"
mentality that is clearly driving some citizens of our
protectorate, the Protectors are only concerned that
someone finds a way to enjoy a perfectly legal
activity in any way, shape or form but they don't have
the will to do it openly; perhaps because it would
incite open rebellion.
Isn't it is they (the Protectors League) who are
acting in a fraudulent manner? And isn't this fraud
being used to erode our freedom's much more
effectively than Don Rumsfeld could ever dream of
doing?
The west coast chapter of the League's public success
has only wet their appetite for regulating lives. They
hard at work getting smoking outlawed within the walls
of private residences; a fact that has not slipped
past the advisor to the League, Jeanne Weigam.
