In the article in today's Pioneer Press Ron Maddox is quoted as
saying his first rule for the Taste of Minnesota was no politics.
however, I know that a number of times I have seen politicians with
their handlers walking through the crowd passing out literature.

This caused me to think about some of the comments made in past
posts about Coleman, Bennenav and others who campaigned at the
Farmer's market.

Its one thing to have a booth. its another to pass out literature
for your cause. Its still another thing to stop a person who
happens to be a candidate from walking through your public event.

Of course the issue of whether or not the sidewalk is public still
isn't answered. Nor is the suggestion raised by a post that some
issues actually had space at the farmer's market.

Sorry to weigh in late but I'll admit I haven't been keeping up.
I consider the St. Paul Farmer's Market a bit of an oasis and
wouldn't want someone shoving anti abortion literature at me any
more
than materials for causes I do support.
I think that no politics should simply be a publicly posted
request,
rather than an enforced ban, so that any groups who choose to do it

will know that it is discouraged simply to make the environment
more
welcoming.
