Me too. Incumbent protection is often much more important to the DFL
hierarchy than service to the citizens. Nothing like 30 years in a safe
(gerrymandered if necessary) seat, and then employment at a nice salary
with the corporation most greatly benefitted by those 30 years of service.
Where is the DFL when it comes to active promotion of campaign finance
reform, voting reform (IRV, PR), fairness for third parties? Usually
nowhere, or on the wrong side.
Often the incumbent has a one-track mind on serving the Chamber of
Commerce Big Players, and hitting all the rest of us with the bill.
Often the DFL goes rabid against change, against third parties ("how COULD
you vote for X when that only elects the evil RP? Huh?! Huh!?")
After each stunning electoral defeat, the DFL _says_ it is looking for
advice from the populace, but never listens; instead it _tells_ everyone
the answer, usually some blather never enacted, and more 'business
friendly' (ie corporate welfare) legislation.
So I can only CHEER HUZZAH! whenever incumbents are challenged, by
mavericks of their own party. I don't always like the specific results,
but I prefer the general results of challenging over the general results
of doing whatever the hierarchy prefers (usually safety over creativity).
No incumbent should ever feel safe; fear - if nothing else - should drive
them to serve well in order to _deserve_ re-election.
It's why I am a member of a third party, the Green Party. The system needs
a lot more turning over to get the new plants to grow.
Let a hundred flowers bloom!
