Excuse me, but you think the DFL, a political party, whose only purpose is to
elect people of their party should be supportive of third parties?
The Republicans started out as a third party. Do you think that the
Democrats at the time said yeah another new party, let's help them get started?
Gee I think a new item for my party should be how we can help people who are
working against us...
Brain surgeons...
As to Christy's point on party endorsement and if one should follow it. I
have always offered this simple advice to candidates that I have worked for...
If you do not have money, personal wealth, or access to tons of cash, support
the endorsement process and abide with it if/when you run for office. It is
the only way that average people without financial connections can get elected.
If you have your own personal wealth or have access to wealth, good
relationship with the Chamber (the real Republican party) then you have three
options.
One, seek the endorsement but acknowledge that you will run anyway (its the
only game in town). It will give you a chance to do some public speaking and
claim you are a Democrat. Two, seek the endorsement, say you will abide, but
know you will run anyway. You will get more votes their that way, you could
get it, or you could at least block it. And three, you could show some class
and not ask for the endorsement in the first place. If you really don't care
what these people think why waste their time!
I don't expect any of them who will run anyway to show that class.
