I don't think they are being used. they are being carried by police that are
assigned duty at the school. As mentioned by our school board contact, the
police also carry their sidearm. Obviously they are not being used on the
students.

I have seen some rough scraps in my high school years where it was only by luck
that someone didn't get seriously injured. Fights where simple physical
strength was almost not enough to break it up. For those who believe in the
non-violence method, what do you do to keep the two in the fight from killing
each other and from the fight becoming not simply 2 people punching each other
but a rumble? Calmly asking the participants to stop isn't going to work. I
agree that there are things that can be worked on to stop the fights before the
start but once the fight is on, you have to do something about it. I don't
think you can ignore it and wait for the kids to punch themselves out. Tasers
seem like a viable, non-leathal (except in extreme rare cases) means to end it.
And just like having a gun, it doesn't mean that grabbing the taser will be
the first option.

It would be great if our schools didn't need cops with tasers or cops at all.
the reality is that we do.
