Whoa.

St. Paul police officers in St. Paul high schools are NOT "using" tasers, or
guns, against our students. As a number of recent newspaper articles have
clearly reported, School Resource Officers have broad roles and the bulk of
their time is spent building relationships and providing powerful guidance
to students -- something that all teens certainly need from as many caring
adults as possible. Yes, they are still police officers and have that full
range of powers and responsibilities; but SROs have special training and a
different focus, and have made a positive difference with many, many
students.

Yes, I believe there are a broad set of issues that can be discussed here,
including officers carrying guns anywhere (vs. England), officers in our
schools at all, intervention programs for students, mentoring and guidance
for students, and so on.

In the meantime, however, it's important to take care with what's real and
what's not especially when it comes to children...and then start from there.
