It is an article of faith for some that nothing of value comes from the "other" side.A sad faith that is, whether leftward or rightward leaning. When you subscribe to that particular religion, and nothing of worth comes from the "other", then intolerance is the result-- get enough people to agree with you, and intolerance becomes totalitarianism.
