Roger Sherlock Holmes here.
Dave Bell wrote me this concerning those PDF downloads: "I had no trouble with Netscape 7.01, which I used for most of the exploration. However, with IE 6.0 and N 4.7, I did find problems similar to those mentioned. I didn't have to kill either the program or the Windows session, but did eventually have to Close the daughter windows that were trying to display the pdf". I also have Internet Explorer 6.0. and have PDF download problems. Do you have IE 6.0 too? This could be the problem. John John L. Carmichael Jr. Sundial Sculptures 925 E. I had some minor problem with the pdfs. When I went down the page on the horizontal functions pdf, the screen went blank. When I tried again I got Martian text. This happened each time I tried that page. I even waited until the whole page had downloaded before trying to move to the bottom of the page. Blank screen again. The other pdf pages were ok. My system was always sensitive to pdf downloads and would lock up and crash if I got impatient and tried to move or exit before the file was complete. Good webmasters are rare (like good sundial makers). They must have knowledge of the technical aspects of web design AND they must have a good feel for art too. That old left brain/right brain thing. Maybe this explains why there are so many bad websites out there. Anyway, please have a look. I'm particularly interested if any of you have problems downloading the four PDF files that describe sundial functions at the bottom of the "Functions" page at http://www.sundialsculptures.com/content/functions.html If you have problems with these PDFs would you let me know? Also, any comments on the following would be much appreciated: 1. Do you think it is user friendly for someone who knows nothing about sundials? 2. Do you think it is too complicated or overloaded with too much information? 2. Do you see any errors such as typos, false or misleading information? Thanks. We hope you like it. John John L.
