I recently came across a photograph of a sundial, made in black
granite - and which had the following Latin inscription, on it:
TE IMMOBILEM MOBILIS ILLUMINET SOL
Can any of the "classical scholars" on this mailing-list please
tell me what the English 'translation' of that inscription is ?
>From my own (limited) knowledge, it looks a bit like "The Sun
illuminates both the moving and stationary" - or something !
