I had actually hoped you would be one of the folks to reply. I love your stuff. One of the things I want to do is learn stained glass. I dabbled in it, very lightly, like, little toe dabbling about 23 years ago. Then I was married and had kids. Didn't want shards of glass around the house<G> so I decided I could learn it later. Now, both kids are cooked and in college. So, I am thinking of going back to working on stained glass, again.
I have this fantasy of designing several seasonal panels that I can build and hang in my windows as the seasons change. Using the stained glass instead of curtains. But, keeping heavy light blocking curtains hung for the really HOT days. I wanted to have some that could be changed out. Doe about 4 designs per season, all total, hang them by chain from the windows. Just something fun and funky. I don't know if I want to go all out and do lead windows or use copper take with lead solder. I tasted a bit of both before domesticity took hold<G> We'll see if I go back to it. but right now, I am focusing on Sundials. So, I plan to paint a sundial on the window frame using glass paint. The only problem is, I cannot actually mount the style to the window. So, I want to back check with you guys. what I am thinking about doing is, paint the dial as planned. Then, I'll make a paper style and use that to check my distance. I can mount two bars across the window 2-3 inches away from the window. I can attach the actual style to the bars. So, I can use the paper style to adjust the amount of material I need to leave off the bottom of the style to have the correct shadow. In effect, I am creating a floating style. What do you guys think. I wanted to check with folks who have done real stained glass and see if you think the floating style will work.
