Hello Kurt,
I totally agree with you.
This feature is not wanted by Sun Ray ISP's
The fact that the Sun Ray is a none configurable stateless client makes
it an ideal fit for ISP's.
An ISP has now total control over the Sun Ray.
No other PC or Thin Client alternative can match this.
If this is implemented the best Sun Ray USP has gone out of the window.
Some options in the Pop up GUI are needed I agree on that, but the
implementation is wrong.
There should be a central lockdown mechanism.
Another option is to override these settings from the SIMcard.
This would enable ISP's to distribute SIMcards to remote customers with
the right (lockeddown) settings.
I think some serious rethinking is necessary at Sun.

Hi,
just glanced over the docs and found the paragraph describing the
new "Pop-up GUI". How can this be disabled? Either by a password
or better "physically": Having to deal with SunRays "configured"
by students there would be no good reason left to deploy SunRays
instead of PCs in our environment.
AFAIK, there is no way to disable Pop-up GUI .
User can always get access to Pop-up GUI by
pressing Stop-M or Stop-S. If it's password
protected it will allow you to enter only after
authentication.
However, one can reset the password with out
any permissions and so can always change the
local config with out admin knowledge.
Wow! What a security "feature"! If this will be the same in the released
version I'll have to stay with older SRSS and firmware as long as possible
and plan on migrating my SunRays ASAP to PCs or some other ThinClients, but
ones which have no <Please change my configuration> "feature".
I really can't understand why anyone would render SunRays useless
with such a silly "feature"!
