I am still confused about the protocol used as all say 2.4GHz but not bluetooth??

2.4GHz is a frequency, not a protocol. Not all wireless devices use 2.4GHz (Logitech uses 27MHz on some keyboards and mice).

Bluetooth is 2.4GHz, but not all 2.4GHz is bluetooth (or 802.11b/g/etc). Tires are round, but not all round things are tires. (: If it comes with a dongle, it's (probably) not bluetooth.

You see 2.4GHz a lot because there is an unlicensed band available there.

I tried the Microsoft wireless keyboard and it failed to work with the sunray. Come to think of it, I don't know if I tried it with the sunray2; I should test that again.

Thanks Jason,

sorry when I said protocol I assumed people understood that I was differentiating 802.11, 802.15 etc. Yes they all operate at the 2.4GHz frequency spectrum and so do microwaves and cordless phones!! Which is why Wireless AP's should not be positioned next to any of those devices mentioned as they emit a broad range of frequencies using 2.4GHz as carrier...... (ok am not mentioning 802.11a here!!)

Yes 2.4GHz and 5GHz are unlicensed unless you live in Russia :-) (which also restricts the use of N-draft in 802.11 wireless networks)

I did not know that anything round was not a wheel :-P (mind you it's my head spinning so that's my excuse lol)

Just finished 2 Cisco CCENT certification practice exams between my last post and now, got 92.6% for the first and 90.9% for the latter..... I also have a degree in Electronic Engineering meaning RF, telcoms, networking computer architecture, etc!!! Just need to find that first job now :-( - pretty hard in todays climate though and am totally lost....... time to loose one headache now and start my next neural pain expedition - anybody feeling kind enough to take a good student?? (just kidding..... but worth a shot!)

Kaya
