The SUNWutxsun package was not installed.
I have installed it manually without any problem. I am wondering why it
did not install during the SRSS installation.

No, there is no performance advantage to using gdm.
That symlink should have been delivered as part of SUNWutxsun. Is
SUNWutxsun installed on your system?
