Kaya,

I can't offer any advice on VBox as I haven't used it; at my site,
we've gone the WTS route.

You could set up kiosk mode to take your users straight to the OS with
the accounting app. You could also customize things such that your thin
client or your smart card presented a different, more full-featured,
menu.

Kiosk mode gives you access to any OS you can connect to. One choice
could be a full Solaris CDE/JDS desktop, another could be a simple
xterm, another could be "ssh to system ABC" [which could be your Linux
system]...

For example, I had some users from the east coast [my infrastructure is
on the west coast] ask if I could install Exceed on the WTSs because
they wanted to access a graphical desktop on their Linux boxes. Instead
of spending several hundred dollars a pop for Exceed, I gave them a few
Sun smart cards and, since inserting the smart card caused a UNIX login
to appear, they were able to access Linux at minimal cost.

In your case, switching between Solaris and Linux is probably even
easier because the SunRay server understands X, so if you set it up
right, you'll get a UNIX login and from there you can go either to
Solaris or Linux. And, of course, once you're logged in to one, you
could get to the other.

Windows???

Thanks Scott,

hmm perhaps I should go RDP then after as just thought of doing VBox?

Am a bit lost but I am pretty sure that they won't appreciate it so
perhaps do kiosk for me and leave these guys with a simplified setup!

Can I use kiosk to switch between Solaris and Linux? This would do me
wonders!!

Regards,

Kaya

simultaneous users. It's worth a shot just to see if it works but if it
doesn't then you'd have to go the VDI route.

could configure it to run the Windows Connector and go straight to a
WTS. Or you could use TCL and create some fancy control panel with many
options from which the users can choose [Windows, UNIX desktop, xterm,
browser, etc.]. It's basically a method of control: the first example
gives users no options while the second gives them maximum choice. It's
up to you as to how much leeway to give the users.
