I have no idea... One could try strace,
  sudo strace -ff -o  logfile  /opt/SUNWut/lib/utauthd -b
but I am afraid it will produce a lot of output in logfile,
which we do not really unterstand. But you can try it. 
Perhaps you see something, an attempt to open a file 
which should be there and is missing...

You are right. It looks unusual *for me*. But   
/opt/SUNWut/sbin/utadm -L on
is a valid configuration of SRSS. So forget my mumbling about this
and auth.props.
