yes and no. Model any driver as a protocol converter and state
machine. In one direction (toward the drive) they are unique. In
the other (toward the mac) they BDWNB**. Ergo, different drivers
that react slightly differently in a give situation are not good.
Practically, I've had problems with 2 versions of Apple's driver
(e.g.: 8.1.2 and 8.1.4 recently) that were alleviated by settling to
*either one* (e.g.: all 8.1.2).
