The USB compatibility refers to connectivity to a variety of portable mp3 player, like iPod, Nomad, Rio, etc, etc.. As far as running iTunes on your S900, for mp3 playback, you only need OS 9.04 for that. As a matter of fact there were some hacks that allowed it's use under OS 8.6 too. I ran it under 8.6 and it worked fine except for it's burning capability, which was problematic for me then.
