I just figured part out my problem, although I'm not sure why it started
doing this in the first place, or if it will help others with mounting
problems. I inserted a few factory cd's as well as cd's burned elsewhere,
and they mount just fine. So it seems my Teac Cd/rom no longer likes my
Memorex cd's burned on my Sony firewire drive. This is real strange because
it was mounting & reading them just fine until now.

So now that I've solved one mystery, I am left with yet another. Ideas
welcome! Others having mounting problems might try a factory cd too just in
case issues are similar. Dave
