First of all, I apologize for the length of this entry - please let me know
if there's another way to handle lengthly "incident reports"...

Summary - S900 w/G3 XLR8 upgrade card, OS9.1, have 4 PCI boards - started
with...
Slot 1 - 2940UW Adaptec board
Slot 2 - TwinTurbo video board
Slot 3 - blank
slot 4 - Audiophile 2496 audio/MIDI card
slot 5 - blank
slot 6 - PowerLogix RapidFire board

Firewire was not being acknowledged at all in System Profiler
Suggestion from Jeff to switch TwinTurbo (slot 2) w/RapidFire (slot 6) -
they both work, BUT Audiophile (slot 4) isn't acknowledged.

Suggestion 1 - move 2940UW to one of four lower slots and Audiophile in
upper two slots. Result: No video

Suggestion 2 - start from scratch order (also try keeping TT lower than
audiophile to see what happens) TT & Audiophile in first two slots, 2940UW &
RapidFire in lowe two slots -

Here is what I did in several attempts...

Slot 1 - audiophile
Slot 2 - TwinTurbo
Slot 3 - RapidFire
Slot 4 - 2940UW
RESULT: video worked, but system froze consistently (pre-extension icons)

Slot 1 - audiophile
Slot 2 - TwinTurbo
Slot 3 - 2940UW
Slot 4 - RapidFire
RESULT: RapidFire still invisible. I later replaced RapidFire in Slot 5,
same deal. When I put RapidFire in Slot 6, system froze in same manner as
above (pre-extension)

Slot 1 - audiophile
Slot 2 - TT
Slot 3 - RapidFire
Slot 4 - 2940UW
RESULT: Same system lockup as above (pre-extension)

Now I was REALLY curious, so I tried to determine if maybe I had some bad
PCI slots or if the 2940UW may be the problem, so I did the following...

Took the 2940UW out of the loop

Slot 1 - audiophile
Slot 2 - TT
Slot 3 - RapidFire

RESULT: All three were acknowledged. I took the RapidFire and moved it once,
to Slot 4, once to Slot 5, once to Slot 6. No difference - all three were
acknowledged.

One thing I noticed consistently, is that only 3 PCI slots were ever
acknolwedged - different boards, but same indicators - A1, B1 & C1 were
acknowledged, no matter what slots the boards were in.

Could this have anything to do with my XLR8 G3 upgrade card?

Thanks in advance.

BevLev
