I think it's probably me that is missing some thing. I wanted to put OS9 on
this Imac There is an Imac firmware update on the OS9 CD but when I tried to
install it the message cannot install to a locked drive came up. After
reading Dan's reply I am assuming that 8.6 will load and I will then be able
to run the firmware update by copying it from the CD to the hard drive.
I have 8.5 installer and 8.6 update does this seem about right? I wanted to
be sure of my ground before asking my friend to make another trip of 40
miles to see me again.

What I did find interesting was that he had managed to load OSX and get that
to run

Thanks for the help John
