I don't believe there are any generalizations regarding stability vis a vis the G3 and G4 in an S900. Stability-wise they both seem to be about the same from the reports I've seen. If you have some spare parts available, you migth do a bit of swapping in your machine to see if you can isolate the cause for your freezes. I think the first thing I would try is booting from a CDROM and see if you still have freezes. If not, then the place to look is your System folder.
