Well, I can't compare speed to your G3 500, since I've never used one.   
It's probably about the same, however.    As for stability, I've had no 
problems at all.   I've only had the card for a few days, but I've left OS 
10.1.4 running for most of this time with no problems.  I've only ran 9.1 on 
it for a few minutes at a time, so I can't really speak to 9.1's stability 
with it, but if X runs on it, I'd have to assume 9.1 would be just fine.

The only problem I've had - now solved - was the problem of re-booting from 
X into 9.1.   I was doing a re-start without a shutdown before.   This 
*always* resulted in a crashed, un-bootable system, whether I used the 
"Option Key" method or just the OS X Startup Disk utility.   However, if I 
shutdown before re-booting using either method, then it works just fine.

The bottom line is, I'm happy.   I bought the G4 450 card on eBay, brand new 
in a sealed box for $265 including shipping.    They're $300 plus shipping 
everywhere else!
