Hi, I just tried a couple of cards (all in the lower slots):
all of them worked fine under 9.1, but only one works under OSX. I tried OWC with VIA chip, another one with VIA chip Maxtor with lucent chip, Umax with TI chipset. Only the last one works with both of my hard drives. OWC 911 case and QPS M3. I got this card bundled with a Astra 6400 for $49 from Outpost. Not too bad a deal. I returned the Maxtor card and moved the VIA chip cards to my two C500. The VIA cards were both $25. You should be able to find similar cards in any PC-parts store. There seem to be some issues with OSX and PCI Firewire cards. I would think this is mainly Apples fault but it might also be connected with my machine beeing unsupported. The performance of the OWC 911 is only about 1/3 of the performance under OS9. The performance of the QPS M3 seems to be similar in X/9. Anyway, it works for me but I have not tested any other peripherals. I think the XLR8 card is also TI based but I might be mistaken. Also OWC said that they got two different sources for their cards and only one works under OSX. I think I saw somewhere mentioned that their other type is lucent based. good luck!
