Brian, have you tried Tech Tool Pro or DiskWarrior to boot up? What 
system cd are you using to try and restart it? You either must use 
the cd that came with the iMac or a retail one. The system cds that 
come with the computers are programmed for that model computer.

If you don't get it going, try checking with the iMac list:
