A friend of mine had her C600 on during a lightning storm and it suddenly went poof and subequently would not boot. I checked it out for her and it turns out that the internal modem card and the PCI video card seemed to be damage. Whenever either one was left in the machine it would not boot...that is, the computer would try to start, but no video and no OS loading would occur. I could actually see a couple of burnt looking spots on the modem. Once I removed those items and connected to the built-in video, all seemed well. However, now the computer doesn't seem to recognize the printer. She has two hard drives, one with OS8.1 and one with 8.6 and niether would print. I took it home and the printer works fine on my computer. What I'm wondering about is whether it would be a good idea to just format her hard drives and start fresh, or if simply re-installing the OS should be sufficient. I don't have any experience with lightning damaged computers, but I was hoping that someone in a more lightning-prone area of the country would have some advice.
