Thanks, Paul, and I am copying my original msg as well since it was posted
quite a while back.
The reason for HDST is besides the external firewire drive, the factory WD
SCSI drive that came with the S900 is not compatible with Apple Drive Setup
either.
As I explained, HDST came bundled with the firewire drive, and it was a given
for me to unify the whole thing with HDST.
Yes, I do agree with being able to remove the drive from the case.
In my case, I could simply remove the cover and patch the drive onto the
internal IDE cable that is on the Sonnet card, which I had to do when I was
troubleshooting the defective EZQuest drive. (Drive was fine. It was the
Firewire interface that went south.)
Received notice from EZQuest that the replacment drive is on its way via UPS
Ground, due on 6.26.
One of these days I'll be with an Apple machine that will allow me to stick
with Drive Setup.
With HDST, however, it is possible to finetune the firewire drive performance
so it is more stable on our machines.
At least that has been the case with my setup.
Take care,
Alan
