This really would defeat the purpose, all right. I'd be surprised if it's a
factor, but at this point, anything is worth a try. This might reveal an
unexpected clue -- which is probably what it's going to take, since so far
none of this is expected.

I've been transporting stuff between work and home on PC-formatted 100MB Zip
disks for years without a problem. I can go between all the following
systems, every drive mentioned below can format a DOS disk and have it work
perfectly in all the others, the Mac systems can all format and share Mac
disks, and I didn't have to do anything special to accomplish this:

- work system
Dell Lattitude CPx w/Zip 250 Parallel, Windows 2000 Pro, Windows XP

- home system #1
  Yosemite w/ATAPI Zip 100 Insider, Mac OS 8.5 - X.1.5

- home system #2
  S900 w/SCSI Zip 100 Insider, Mac OS 8.1 - 8.6

- mother's system
  S900 w/SCSI Zip 100 Insider, Mac OS 8.5.1

- wife's work system
  Compaq Presario w/Zip 250 Parallel, Windows NT4 - Windows 2000 Pro

You really should be able to do what you want to do without a problem,
unless you've got some unusual, isolated hardware defect or incompatibility
in the mix (still my guess).

Hope this helps, somehow....
