The built-in L2 cache would be disabled with the card in and no driver
loaded to activate the card's cache, so if ASP sees anything at all, I would
assume that yes, it's working. Is 512 k what the card's supposed to have?

If it starts up at all it's working ;-)

It sounds like the driver is messed up for the drive; try a complete
reformat. The error codes are being returned by the device itself; you might
be able to find their meaning on the Seagate web site, but I'm not so sure
it would help any. But also check the mounting hardware and that the ribbon
cable nor power isn't loose. Sometimes intermittent connections caused by
vibration can be enough to damage the partitions on a hard drive.
