Thanks for the offer.  We use APC.  I haven't seen any that will work 
with Macs, but it's possible that there are USB units that do now.  I 
might have to dig around and see what I can find about that.

In other news, the primary reason I can't connect via Timbuktu is 
because - oops!, my trial version expired!  So that may still work.

The biggest problem is that so far, coming back from a power outage 
is not particularly graceful.  It often involves pulling batteries, 
holding CUDA, and the famous Opt-Apple-P-R quadruple Bucky.  Restarts 
work fine, but shutdown/reboot can sometimes be ugly.

At this point I just hope the big honking UPS (with additional 
external battery) has enough juice to cover any outage when I'm out 
of town.  It usually does the trick, though we mostly get brief down 
times.
