Hi BC, I have been sharing files between X and 8.6 for some time and usually have no problem. Occasionally, though, I have to jog sharing on the 8.6 side. By that I mean I turn file sharing off, make Appletalk inactive, make it active again, then turn file sharing back on. Of course, you have to make 8.6 volumes of interest sharable by choosing Get Info and the Sharing pulldown and checking the "Share this item and its contents" box. You also want to insure that Appletalk (via its control panel) is set up to connect via Ethernet. I've never had to do anything on the OS X side. Which way you do things is your own preference. You can use the Chooser on the 8.6 side or Go->Connect to Server on the OS X side. You will also need a User that both systems share. I have set up one called "Family" without a password that I use for sharing files within our little family network. This is via the Users window in System Prefs on X and the Users&Groups control panel on 8.6. I hope I haven't included too much that you already knew and that something here helps you get going with file sharing. Good luck. Gary -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
