I have been relatively spam free in my internet experience.  However, I 
once made a typo in a web address and ended up on a porn site.  I got 
porn spam for several days after that.

The August issue of Macworld has a very nice article about dealing with 
spam.  I found the info about not putting your email address in your 
personal web page to be one of the most interesting comment.  Most 
people (including me) don't know where they leave themselves open.

IMHO setting up your own filtering is the best way to filter spam.
