I don't think all of your questions have yet been answered so I will
give it a go.

Stick with XPF beta 7 and packages for all of your installing of
10.03 upto and including 10.1.5 . It is the most bug free and runs
installs and runs well with all of these versions.

>Q2: I also have the OSXUpdateCombo.10.1.5.dmg (BTW, what's the .dmg

.dmg is a disk image in OSX. It has replaced .smi and others. It only
runs in OSX and uses disk copy to open and check the files for
errors.. Well yes you can update from 10.1 to 10.1.5 with out
rebooting into OS 9.x so you don't need XPF for that. The update is a
bit of a pain and is no longer possible to do using the "Software
update" panel in OSX because of security issues which have recently
cropped up. The first time I did it ,it was easy as software update
did it for me! You have to download and install the needed software.
It took me a while to figure out how and in what order as while Apple
has a list somewhere it's not all that apparent nor easy to figure
out.
To go from OSX 10.1 to 10.1.5
1.Download and install Security Update 10-19-01
2. Download and install Installer update (300k in size)
3. Mac OSX Combo Update 10.1.5
They have to be done in this order. You will otherwise not be able to
do the 10.1 to 10.1.5 install. The software is found on the Apple
software page under other OSX software...then Apple.
After the above installs were done. Software update shows
Security Update 7-18-02 which I let it install. (before installing
all of this Software update either shows and error or says I am
already up to date!)
After the Security 7-18-02 is installed Software update again works
normal and there is a list of things you can choice from to install
including another Security update which you should install. I was
careful to show which things to install as there are many things
listed at Apple which are no longer needed and it is confusing.
Software update had a security leak which made it possible for
someone to use to install virus etc on your machine.

I recommend using XPF beta 7 for all OSX's from 10.03- 10.1.5
I recommend XPF beta 15 for Jaguar 10.2 it has a bug which keeps
older OS's from working correctly .
XPF beta 16 is buggy don't use.
I've either had problems with or not tested the other versions of XPF.

XPF beta 17 is in testing before release. Being the UMAX S900/J700
XPF tester I'll be trying tonight . Not really wanting to since
things are fine as they are but someone has to I guess. later Will S
