Doesn't it work ok with the Yamaha ? My home made bootable CDs work fine on all my external CD burners but NOT on the factory Matshita (24x) drive. Alan To which I add: Various people have problems booting Umax clones from CDs, factory or home brew. However, that is not the issue here. The OEM version of Toast does not support making bootable CDs and hasn't, IIRC, since Adaptec bought Toast from Asart. The first version of Toast that I got DID burn bootable CDs, but that was several years ago with a Phillips 6200 (2X CDR burner). I don't have the Asart SW handy, but I believe it was version 2.X or some such. Like all the vendors of today, the OEM included SW is just to get you started. Full functionality requires an 'upgrade'. Alan's suggestion to use the Yamaha for booting; assuming the internal CD drive will not boot is a good one; but I would not assume, out of hand, that your OEM drive is not bootable. Like Will, when I installed Mac OS 9.1 from a retail copy, my S900 suddenly recognized the 'C' key for booting instead of the Vulcan Death Grip (VDG AKA 4 finger salute). This had never worked in the past. Generally speaking, for non-destructive issues, the simplest thing is to try it. (Like booting from a CD.) And one might consider re-trying a thing that formerly did not work, given a material change in configuration. Boot my S900s boot home brew CDs just fine and always have. Will and others have not been so fortunate. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
