>Yeah, I've heard of tinnitus, (thanks dictionary.com) - From a public
>service video I found one day at the dump. (Where most of my computers come
>from.) It had all sorts of famous aging rock and roll stars talking about
>how they sure wish that they'd worn ear plugs in their younger days.

>Since this sound definitely starts and stops when I plug in and unplug the
>computer, I don't think it's all in my head. My girlfriend can't hear it,
>but then again she "almost went deaf as a child" from several ear
>infections, or at least that's what she always says when I complain that
>she's not listening to me...

I've also noticed on the S900 that I've first worked on a high
pitched whine while in the off position. Coming from the Power
Supply. Replacing the PRAM battery which was defunct, changed
nothing. Unplugging the power supply cord and the noise went away.
Replacing the power Supply took care of the noise. This is the only
S900 that I noticed this in. I've had several since. I believed the
power supply was going bad so a replacement from Small Dog for $25
seemed in order. There have been several postings on the "Quadlist"
about certain Performa models that develop a whine from the PS prior
to a PS failure. It is a resistor I believe that is the major
culprit.

PS: I've worked in the power equipment industry for the last 35
years, so my hearing is definitely suspect. Ask my wife if you don't
concurr.
