I tried it again, and it did work. I think the reason I had remembered that it didn't was the last time I tried it I needed to do a full install and the system installer wouldn't recognize the machine with the G# in. However while it'll boot the machine very little on it works anymore. But it will start the machine, which in this case was all I needed. Re Dave's suggestion, to use the Iomega tools, that works great. I wasn't aware that Iomega did this since my Iomega stuff is of course years out of date so I went and got the latest ones which did. Don't know how, but they make a rescue startup disk on a 100mb Zip with enough room left for a full suite of disk tools. When I get a minute I'll try burning it onto a CD and see it that works too. BTW, when these sort of things happen, the main HD gets coy about booting and it takes numerous starts before it does, or fiddling with the SCSI chain, 9 out of 10 times I find Disk Warrior the cure. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
