Well well well, And so it seems I do have a ram stick gone bad. I'll be darned. Strangely the startup problem doesn't occur booting to a scsi drive, maybe its because of the slower access time or ? Then again, maybe there is some other compatibility issues between the the s900, certain ram and maybe the VST card as another lister has just emailed me with similar problems.
Anyway, it didn't take long at all to isolate the stick. It was one of the two 'Tall Rams' some may remember I picked up in April. They were removed first because they were the easiest to pull. They had tested fine back then but apparently one has gone bad since, the other is fine. So once again, thanks for the good ideas Jeff, Tom and Will.
