Just to add another voice, to the dissent. As a recipient of the digest I
too prefer top posting, as it easier for me to read the fresh information at
the top, immediately after the subject header (which I always stop at to
determine if the post is of relevance to me). Then I can rapidly scroll
through the quoted text if I am already familiar with the thread, until I
stop at the next subject header and most recent info in that post at the
top. The recent digests with everybody bottom posting actually means more
'stop and scrolling' for me. It is also different to just about every other
e-mail list I am subscribed to. Blame this on e-mail clients or whatever,
but it is pretty much the default today, for good reasons from my
perspective, so go with your preferred method, but accept that there are
alternative preferences for good reasons.

This "historically the internet was XX posting" smacks of belligerence to me
no matter which side you take, as using selective examples you could argue
for either standpoint. Can't we just use our preferred quotation method and
agree to trim posts, then if necessary courteously remind people that don't
do so that it is not good netiquette. This list has operated that way quite
happily from its inception, so I see no need for heavy handed list-mom
tactics to change this (for the humour impaired the last statement was
tongue-in-cheek).

Cheers, Pete.
