I guess you're not subscribed in digest mode... Top posting is frowned upon because there's high correlation between it and full-quoting everything, including signatures and ads. Top posting is ideal for write-only communication (that's why most managers prefer it). It makes it extremely difficult to track who said what and in what context, once the length of thread goes beyond three or four. This is a discussion list. Mile-long threads are expected :-) -- Interestingly, most Unix utilities have a command line option which will cause the system to rip the user's legs off and beat them to death with the soggy ends.
