I've used C500s with completly dead PRAM batteries, so I doubt that's the
problem. The fact that it comes on and then goes out usually indicates that
the monitor has a problem. However, since you have another monitor that
isn't working with the machine, it could be the onboard video.
You can get inexpensive PCI video cards to try, or get a cheap used monitor
to try. In general, I think your better off putting money into a new Mac
than paying the exorbitant rates at repair shops.
Don't you know another Mac user in your town that can lend you a monitor to
try?
