Okay, here's another interesting one for ya Will. I have two Seagate IDE drives, one 4.3 gb Model ST34311A which is a few years old and a newly acquired 60 GB Model ST360020A 5400 rpm.
The interesting thing is, while both of these have been formatted with Drive Setup and drivers updated, neither will show the driver version in the ASP. When I check the driver version on a Quantum 15 on the other ide bus, it shows it just fine. I was kinda hoping this wouldn't be the case because it might have shed some light on the problem I am having with the DVD/RAM drive showing up as a locked drive. No such luck. So I said, OK, maybe there is something wrong with the first ide bus? So I switched them around, checked the driver on the Quantum and it still displays just fine. I then formatted the Seagate again, updated the driver just to be sure, rebooted, and still no driver version shows up. On this 60 gb drive, I should note that it also freezes my machine up when I run a surface or media scan. I've increased the memory sufficiently to the apps. If there is something wrong with the drive, I will need to ship it back. By chance does anybody know if these problems are indicative of Seagates or a signal to a failing drive? Why would a Surface or Media Scan freeze up the utility apps and machine? Is anybody else unable to see the driver version when you use ASP for your Seagate? Of course, thanks for any and all ideas.
