Re the ASP, even the MacOS Drive Setup driver doesn't display but I guess it
could be a quirk of the ASP and not connected to the problems with the drive
itself.

This seems worth pursuing.  Last night I found a reference that there is one
or two old apps out there called Emergency Unlock which was from Fifth
Generation and another called Floppy Unlocker (which was for floppy drives
locking up) but whether they would work on OS9 or this problem?  I don't
know yet but I'm sniffing out the issue.

Most of them and are updated but I didn't run DW first.  Even the media
check in Drive Setup freezes up.  It was a fresh format and empty disk but I
can try that too.
