Hi,
I also use usb to print to an Epson 1200 which has serial capability
as well as usb. I use the Epson usb and serial drivers for some tasks but
mostly use PressReady usb and serial postscript rip.

I use (and have used for a couple of years with no problem) very
cheapo PrintRite compatible cartridges - three colour and three black for
around 18 UK pounds - from mx2.com. The difference in print quality
between PrintRite compatibles and 'genuine' Epson cartridges is
negligible using the Epson icc profiles. The media I use for photos is
Kodak Premium 220gsm Ultra glossy - also cheap at 7 uk pounds for 30
sheets. By far the most important part of inkjet colour repro is
optimising the image for print and using the colour management tools to
view the image with the printer profile as the conversion from rgb to
cmyk is fixed for each profile.
As I have a Gretag spectrophotometer plugged into the serial port
and Kodak's Colorflow and Agfa's ColortunePro installed I suppose I could
do a measurement comparison and generate dedicated icc profiles for the
PrintRite's but the print quality is very acceptable so I've never
bothered....if anybody is interested.....

     Pete in the UK
