Hello all,
This is what they tells on
http://www.lowendmac.com/supermacs/s900.shtml:
Newer Tech recommends against using EDO memory in the J700 and S900,
because these
models have "occasionally exhibited some problems when running
with EDO memory. These
problems tend to become more pronounced when updating your
machine with a G3 card. . . .
Therefore, we are recommending people to stick with FPM (Fast
Page Memory) in these machines.
If you are already running EDO memory without apparent problems,
we certainly don't mean to
imply that you should be having problems, merely that you could
have some."
- Is the text still valid or does it concern only Newer Tech uppgrade
cards?
- Does S900's motherboard even support fully EDO dram? If not edo can
be harmful and even damage something by some souce.
- Someone wrote earlier differents between high and low profile dimms.
I can't remember what. Is there any fact for those differents?
If the above mentioned is true it will be wise to change all dramm to
NON EDO LOW PROFILE now when memory is cheap. There is really sometimes
bombs and strange freezings with this supermac, Sonnet Crescendo G4
800 and OS 9.1 and in all 448 MB dimms pairs by size in six banks.
Anyway there were more bombs with original card and earlier systems.
I think I do have only EDO dram. Really don't know about NEC
D4265800G5S. Could't find anything from internet. Kingston KTA 604/64
seems to be EDO but they do not straight say that anywhere. There is
some way to separate EDOs from non EDO by the part no. Do someone know
what?
- Have anyone experiense does S900 recognize more than 1040 MB DRAM?
Just curious.
Comments please,
Olli-Matti
