Thanks to Robyn and all who commented. The RAM is up to 352 now, with VM turned off. Just that alone has made a difference. The Sonnet ATA133 card is in, I updated the firmware from their website just in case. A 40 gig Maxtor is running on that card. Formatted with Two partitions, although I'm not sure why.
Next will try the DVD-rom drive, but enough fun for one night. Should the DVD drive go on the other IDE channel of the card? If so, I need another cable, which I think I have from the Maxtor kit.
